Episode 89: Wilson SmogMonster Overdrive
Wednesday Oct 16, 2013
Wednesday Oct 16, 2013
(for Stitcher and iTunes users....due to issues with posting the episode, we're reposting...just for you!)
Imagine, if you will, you are
stranded on a desert island. Your sanity
is only held in check by the 5 CDs that you’ve chosen to bring with you to live
out your life with. So what would they
be?
Jim, Andy, and Mike took the question, first to their Twitter and Facebook audience, then, to Mike C. and Adam, who couldn’t make it record. Then, they roundtable their 5 top CDs (and another 5 that came close) with discussions about College Alt Rock, Classic Rock, Country, and Charlie Daniels’ ability to appear during bar fights!
Then hang out for the Segments, when Michael McDonald reviews his Top 5 Desert Island CDs, a Stupid Stupid regarding Dino Porn, and a rundown of the trailer of “Thor: The Dark World,” and a run down of the first few weeks of “Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.” in the Salad Shills!

Episode 88: Don't Touch Lola
Sunday Sep 29, 2013
Sunday Sep 29, 2013
First there was Iron Man which kicked off the Marvel movie universe. Now Marvel and Disney have aired the new TV series to continue events started in The Avengers, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Now, if we, the fans, were writing the episodes, what kinds of wacky adventures might Agent Coulson and his band of intrepid adventurers get into? That is the question that Andy, Mike G, and Jim attempt to answer in Geek Salad episode 88: Don't Touch Lola.
The crew take on this task with their usual poise, thoughtfulness, and deep insight. Will Andy bring up the most inadvertently hilarious Marvel superhero, the Whizzer? Will Jim make a DC Cab reference? Will Mike mention the TARDIS? Listen in and see!
(BTW, as regular listeners to the show will know, the answer to all three of those questions is 'Absolutely!')

Wednesday Aug 14, 2013
Wednesday Aug 14, 2013
When you woke up this morning, did you think you were going to get treated to a five minute conversation about Ric Ole? Then you’ve come to the right place as the Geek Salad team resumes their conversation on the Star Wars Original Trilogy with Episode 86 (Part 2): How Anakin Got His Groove Back! Check out the gang’s thoughts on the film affectionately known as anything other than it’s given title (“Return of the Jedi”), the best (and worst) toys in the Kenner Star Wars line, and some thoughts about 2015’s JJ Abrahms directed “Episode VII!” Then, segments are back with a two-fer on Trailer Park as the gang discusses “The Worlds’s End” and the season 4 trailer of “The Walking Dead.” Then, Stupid, Stupid discusses the never ending attempt at making a worse video game based movie. Then The Salad Shills is (almost) all about music! And congratulations to Mike Trogolo for winning our Facebook/Twitter contest to name the episode! Your prize is (*snicker*) in the mail! A Few Marvel/DC Thoughts from San Diego ComicCon
Sunday Jul 21, 2013
Sunday Jul 21, 2013
So this is all based from sources that I read, so I'm sure I'll get something wrong here or there: Thor: The Dark World: Early word is that it looks underwhelming. We said that 2 years ago and were proven extremely wrong on that. I've really enjoyed Chris Hemsworth's interpretation of Thor (adding more humor than we were expecting) and Tom Hiddleson is fucking genius....worst case, it turns into Iron Man 2. Captain America: The Winter Soldier: The concept art is selling this movie right now. It should be as good as the first movie....and as long as they get the nationality of the Winder Soldier's handlers right, it's still a thousand times better than the Matt Salinger movie. Guardians of the Galaxy: In a conversation I had with a friend, he was worried that it would get weird by being left in the hands of the director of Tromeo and Juliette. First off...Disney isn't going to be giving James Gunn a very long leash. Secondly, the movie features a talking tree and a gun toting raccoon....what could possibly be weird about that? Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.: Joss Whedon is going to be fully involved in this...Coulson's back (resurrection, apparently, totally blow off), as is Agent Hill (Colbie Smulders will be needing a job after How I Met Your Mother wraps this season). And Ron Glass from Firefly plays an agent, opening the door for everybody from Whedon's stock players to make an appearance! X-Men: Days of Futures Past: First off, in 2011 when we had 4 superhero movies released, X-Men First Class turned in the best production! Now, we're melding the two casts together. It could be awesome, or it could be a convoluted mess. But Peter Dinklage and Sentinels should balance it towards the "awesome" column! The Flash/JLA: Imagine, if you will, that Hawkeye got a stand-alone movie before Thor. Then, imagine that you spent two hours watching a guy who's sole ability is to be really good at archery. Don't get me wrong, I looooove me some Hawkeye. But Thor needed the added benefit of being fully drawn out in a movie prior to being featured in The Avengers. Now, replace "Hawkeye" with "The Flash" and "Thor" with "Wonder Woman." The Flash is a decent character (albeit, with a rouge's gallery that consists of villains too stupid for Superman to face), but I fear for this turning into another Green Lantern, and nobody wants that... Superman/Batman: I guess the bigger question is, do they just simply replace Christian Bale with somebody else (and with a 2015 release date, they better get cracking at finding that person) and continue the continuity of the Nolanverse, or start fresh? I don't think that Batman's origin needs to be retold again, but establishing what type of Batman this will end up being (Nolan, Burton, Schumacher, or *shudder* West) remains the bigger question. This is definitely a step in the right direction, but with Man of Steel struggling to hit the $300 million domestic marker (and fall substantially short of the $1 Billion world marker that Iron Man 3 hit earlier in the summer) they will need to tread lightly and really have a plan going in to all of this.... What are your thoughts? Go forth and be nerdful! Andy

Episode 84: The Last Son of Kryptin
Thursday Jul 11, 2013
Thursday Jul 11, 2013
In 1938, two creative young men came up with the idea of an alien from a destroyed planet who becomes one of the greatest superheroes the world has ever known, Superman. 74 years later, their groundbreaking vision has reached its ultimate form in Geek Salad episode 84: The Last Son of Kryptin (aka, Krypton, but as spoken by Marlon Brando). Join Andy, Mike C, and Mike G as they use the entire show (sorry, no segments this time) to discuss Superman and all the wonders, and horrors, that his long legacy has wrought. They also tackle his villains (including Lex Luthor's horribly petty reason for hating Superman), his friends, his animal sidekicks, the multiple goofy versions of Kryptonite, and more. The guys even get into a knock-down, drag out fight over the merits of Zack Snyder's Man of Steel and the possibilities for the Justice League movie. Okay, it's more of a fierce debate... okay, more of a friendly debate.
