Episode 159: Who is Sally and Why Does She Like Mexico?

Wednesday, May 2nd, 2018

Out of all the filmmakers of the past 50 years, perhaps of all time, few have been as popular nor seminal as Steven Spielberg. To celebrate the life and films of a man often considered one of the greatest directors of all time, Geek Salad discusses all things Spielberg in episode 159: Who is Sally and Why Does She Like Mexico?

Join Andy, Joe, and Mike as they discuss the many highs (Jaws, Indiana Jones, Jurassic Park) and relatively few but still very lows (1941, Jurassic Park, Indiana Jones) of Steven Spielberg. From his TV movie, Duel, all the way to Andy and Mike's *very* differing reviews of Ready Player One. They will delve deep and try and discover the identity of Sally!

Sunday, April 22nd, 2018

It started out as an exclusive for our YouTube channel, but something happened along the way.  This means that our Podbean (and Podcast) faithful also get Mike and Andy's quick discussion about a professional relationship that has lasted well over 40 years....the teaming of Steven Speilberg and John Williams.

In a prelude to the upcoming discussion about the movies of Speilberg, Andy and Mike count down a few of their favorite themes from a very deep well of options!

#NotMyGeekSalad : A Geek Salad Side Salad Discussion

Wednesday, February 28th, 2018

So there is a straw that finally broke Geek Salad’s camel’s back…toxic fandom.  Pretty much, the last couple of years have produced some of the most maddening arguments and, quite frankly, some of the worst people that humanity has produced (thanks GamerGate!), all due to something that we either love, or “love”….

So as a quick, non-cannonical, aside to our episodes, Andy, Joe, and Mike discuss toxic fandom!

Episode 156: An American Werewolf on Golden Pond

Sunday, February 11th, 2018

While doing their yearly retrospecticons on the movies and musics of 30 years ago, Geek Salad had neglected to cover the movies of 1981. Well this oversight has finally been corrected as the crew finally brings you episode 156: An American Werewolf on Golden Pond. "The loons, Norman! The... AHHHHHHHH!!!" That might have made me interested in seeing that movie, if I'm honest.

Yes, from Time Bandits to Raiders of the Lost Ark, Andy, Mike, Joe, and Katherine tackle 1981's top ten grossing films before heading into some of the more memorable (for good or for ill) films of the year that also gave us Donkey Kong.

Episode 155: Playbill and Rent’s Excellent Adventure

Sunday, January 21st, 2018

Please refrain from flash photography and make yourself comfortable…Geek Salad is going Broadway with our gala musical episode (disclaimer: outside of a couple of random parts here and there, nobody actually breaks out into song).

With the help of guests Matt Jones (i.e.; professional actor type) and Autumn (aka: “Mrs Andy”), as well as a MASSIVE swell of social media feedback, Andy, Mike, Katherine, and Joe cover many different eras and genres of musicals.  While the discussion focuses on the typical Broadway show, the gang does talk about movie musicals, as well as sending Mike and Joe out to Thunderdome to discuss the TV (Stunt) Musical…

Due to the length of the discussion, we’ve put together playlists of much of the music discussed on the show.  You can download the Spotify Playlist here

Or check out the YouTube Playlist here

Episode 154: The Year We Were Introduced to Chinese Turkey

Sunday, December 17th, 2017

In 1983, a holiday movie was released that was only a modertate success at the time. However, that film has gone on to become one of the most beloved Christmas movies of all time. In fact, so many people enjoy this film that is has become an annual tradition for it to be played for 24 hours straight on certain cable channels from Christmas Eve to Christmas Day. Yes, this film is Bob Clark's "A Christmas Story", and here in Geek Salad episode 154: The Year We Were Introduced to Chinese Turkey, the Geek Salad gang show their own love for the film by providing a running commentary on it.

In this interactive episode, grab your own copy of this Christmas classic, pop it into your media player of choice, and listen along with Andy, Mike, Joe, and Katherine as they riff on the film, MST3K style. However, the crew spend about as much time praising the films various aspects as they do cracking jokes about them. All four of them quite adore this movie, too, after all.

In a special Side Salad out just in time for the premiere of Stranger Things season 2, Andy, Mike, Joe, and Katherine give you their quick thoughts on season 1. They go over all the good and the... well, there really wasn't any bad.

After that, they also give their reviews of four recently dropped trailers in the return of Trailer Park. They discuss the trailers for The New MutantsBlack PantherJustice League, and Star Wars: The Last Jedi. Some were better than others, but the overall agreement is that Porgs are adorable.

Episode 152: MU-TH-UR is a Bitch!

Thursday, October 26th, 2017

In space, no one can hear you scream….that goes double if you’re watching any of the “Alien” movies past 1986’s “Aliens.”

So to celebrate Geek Salad’s 10th Annual Halloween show, Mike, Katherine, Joe, and Andy sit down to discuss the horror that is the “Alien” movie series.

From Ridley Scott’s tense 1979 entry into the series, to the clunky schlock-fests in the “Alien vs. Predator” series, and back to Scott’s navel-gazing into the prequels, we’ve got you covered!

Episode 150: Chimichangas and Shawarma, A-holes! part 2 (The Whedon Cut)

Friday, September 22nd, 2017

The Geek Salad crew has returned to finish off their countdown of the top 20 comic book movies of all time in Geek Salad episode 150: Chimichangas and Shawarma, A-holes! part 2 (The Whedon Cut).

Andy, Mike, and Joe are back and they're ready to reveal the top 10 comic book movies. Will The Dark Knight hold onto it's top spot from the episode 50 list? Where will The Avengers sit on the list (considering the last list was made before The Avengers came out), because we know it will make the list somewhere. That movie was awesome! <editorial comment>
