Episode 150: Chimichangas and Shawarma, A-holes! part 2 (The Whedon Cut)

Friday, September 22nd, 2017

The Geek Salad crew has returned to finish off their countdown of the top 20 comic book movies of all time in Geek Salad episode 150: Chimichangas and Shawarma, A-holes! part 2 (The Whedon Cut).

Andy, Mike, and Joe are back and they're ready to reveal the top 10 comic book movies. Will The Dark Knight hold onto it's top spot from the episode 50 list? Where will The Avengers sit on the list (considering the last list was made before The Avengers came out), because we know it will make the list somewhere. That movie was awesome! <editorial comment>

Episode 150: Chimichangas and Shawarma, A-holes! part 1 (The Donner Cut)

Saturday, September 16th, 2017

After suffering through the horrors of the top 15 worst comic book movies of all time, it's time to step back into the light. Yes, once again, the Geek Salad crew of Andy, Mike, and Joe assemble to tabulate the votes and count down the top 20 best comic book movies of all time in Geek Salad episode 150: Chimichangas and Shawarma, A-holes!

In fact, this list is so superheroic, it had to be seperated into two parts. Thus, here we present part 1, affectionately known as The Donner Cut. Here we cover numbers 20-11. How many films from the countdown 100 episodes, and six years, ago will still be on the list? Will Superman soar to the top? Will Wolverine crawl past the others? Will I run out of superhero puns? Listen and find out!

Episode 145: Two All-Beef Patties…OF DOOM!!!!!

Monday, June 5th, 2017

Nothing goes hand in hand with Nerd Culture better than fast food.  Whether it’s a Big Mac, a Five Guys burger, or an Arby’s roast beef (if you’re a monster), nothing hits the spot while you’re arguing over the merits of Val Kilmer as Batman.

On this installment, Andy, Mike, Joe, and Katherine discuss their favorite (and, of course, their not so favorite) menu items at national and regional fast food chains, as well as some choice mentions from the counter service at Disney!

Then, stay tuned for the return of the fan favorite segment “Stupid, Stupid” where the team discusses the lack of accessibility to “The World of Pandora” at Disney’s Animal Kingdom (short version:  we blame James Cameron!)!

Episode 143: Syndicated Incorporated

Wednesday, May 10th, 2017

Syndicated television shows really come in a few of different forms. There are the shows that were created for networks, first aired there, and then moved to syndicated after their run ended. There were shows that started on networks, but moved to syndication due to poor ratings and/or quality. And then there were the shows that were first aired on syndication. Well all three of these types will be discussed in Geek Salad episode 143: Syndicated Incorporated!

Join Andy, Mike, Joe, and Katherine as they go over their many memories of syndicated TV. From the highs of Xena to the lows of Small Wonder and a whole lot of the in betweens, they go through both the joys and scars of their childhood memories of TV shows that couldn't quite make it to the big networks.

Be sure and stick around till the very end as the crew revives Trailer Park in honor of The Last Jedi trailer!

Episode 140: Dress + Animal Sidekick = Princess (Part 1)

Tuesday, March 7th, 2017

In 1937, Walt Disney and his animation studio introduced the world to the concept of a feature length film done entirely in animation. Now, 80 years later, Walt Disney Animation Studios has 56 feature films to their credit. Counting down the top 25 of those proved too big a task for the Geek Salad crew so they put out the call to anyone who would listen and the result is Geek Salad episode 140: Dress + Animal Sidekick = Princess.

As it turns out, though, counting down the top 25 Disney animated feature films also proved to be a very long task, so this episode has been split into two more manageable pieces. This first part covers numbers 25 through 11.

Geek Salad - 2016 in Review

Saturday, December 31st, 2016

So... 2016, the year that had the Grim Reaper as a patron saint. There were a lot of very high profile tragic deaths this year, but Andy and Mike attempt to keep things positive during their 2016 Year in Review.

Recorded while on the road to do an errand, the two go over some of the brighter moments of the past year, while also discussing the rocky start to the DCEU, as well some of the losses we've suffered this past year.

From all of us here at Geek Salad, we wish you a very Happy New Year and here's hoping 2017 is a bit less killer.

Episode 133: The Sausage King of Little China (Part 1)

Thursday, September 22nd, 2016

Geek Salad's annual tribute to films of 30 years ago continues, and what a year they've gotten to this time! Join the regular crew as they chat about the awesomeness of the movies of 1986 in Episode 133: The Sausage King of Little China (Part 1)!

Yes, as you might have guessed with a year filled to the brim with film classics such as Labyrinth, Aliens, and Ferris Bueller's Day Off, they went a bit long. So, to save a bit of your bandwidth, and for ease of listening, the episode has been cut in half. For the first half, they go down the list of the year's top ten highest-grossing films, at least highest-grossing in the United States. Can you guess the #1 film that year without looking it up?

(For the parents out there, we would like to point out that, while we are discussing a whole bunch of Family FunTime destinations, this show is definitely NOT for your kids!!!)

Episode 127: Under the Sea with Prince Ali

Tuesday, May 3rd, 2016

Ever since Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs premiered in 1937, Disney's films have, for the most part, been widely praised for their music. Whether a jaunty upbeat song like "I Just Can't Wait to be King", or a touching love song like "Candle on the Water", the songs are sometimes even more beloved than the films that spawn them. And so, to honor those wonderful tunes, Andy, Mike, Joe, and Katherine are counting down the top 22 Disney songs as voted by the Geek Salad audience in episode 127: Under the Sea with Prince Ali!

The voting was all over the place and there were 80+ nominees, but while not every song made the list, the fact that there were that many shows that everyone loves at least some of the songs. And I think most everyone will agree that the 22 that made this list are really some of the best to ever come from the House of Mouse. But don't worry. Just because it's Disney doesn't mean that the crew will tone down their usual crass humor.
