Episode 143: Syndicated Incorporated

Wednesday, May 10th, 2017

Syndicated television shows really come in a few of different forms. There are the shows that were created for networks, first aired there, and then moved to syndicated after their run ended. There were shows that started on networks, but moved to syndication due to poor ratings and/or quality. And then there were the shows that were first aired on syndication. Well all three of these types will be discussed in Geek Salad episode 143: Syndicated Incorporated!

Join Andy, Mike, Joe, and Katherine as they go over their many memories of syndicated TV. From the highs of Xena to the lows of Small Wonder and a whole lot of the in betweens, they go through both the joys and scars of their childhood memories of TV shows that couldn't quite make it to the big networks.

Be sure and stick around till the very end as the crew revives Trailer Park in honor of The Last Jedi trailer!

Episode 140: Dress + Animal Sidekick = Princess (Part 1)

Tuesday, March 7th, 2017

In 1937, Walt Disney and his animation studio introduced the world to the concept of a feature length film done entirely in animation. Now, 80 years later, Walt Disney Animation Studios has 56 feature films to their credit. Counting down the top 25 of those proved too big a task for the Geek Salad crew so they put out the call to anyone who would listen and the result is Geek Salad episode 140: Dress + Animal Sidekick = Princess.

As it turns out, though, counting down the top 25 Disney animated feature films also proved to be a very long task, so this episode has been split into two more manageable pieces. This first part covers numbers 25 through 11.

Episode 127: Under the Sea with Prince Ali

Tuesday, May 3rd, 2016

Ever since Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs premiered in 1937, Disney's films have, for the most part, been widely praised for their music. Whether a jaunty upbeat song like "I Just Can't Wait to be King", or a touching love song like "Candle on the Water", the songs are sometimes even more beloved than the films that spawn them. And so, to honor those wonderful tunes, Andy, Mike, Joe, and Katherine are counting down the top 22 Disney songs as voted by the Geek Salad audience in episode 127: Under the Sea with Prince Ali!

The voting was all over the place and there were 80+ nominees, but while not every song made the list, the fact that there were that many shows that everyone loves at least some of the songs. And I think most everyone will agree that the 22 that made this list are really some of the best to ever come from the House of Mouse. But don't worry. Just because it's Disney doesn't mean that the crew will tone down their usual crass humor.

Episode 125: Tom Bombadil Ain’t In This One, Either

Saturday, April 2nd, 2016

Settle down in your favorite little Hobbit hole and break out some lembas bread, as it is time for Geek Salad to venture into Middle Earth with episode 125: Tom Bombadil Ain't In This One, Either.Yes, not even the godfather of all nerd culture, Tolkien, is safe from the Geek Salad crew, this time consisting of Ranger Andy, his Elvish maiden Autumn, Rider of Rohan Joe, and Man of Gondor Mike.

The crew take on the books (ever so briefly as they can be a bit... what's the word... boring), the animated specials (which can be a bit... '70s), and finally all six of Peter Jackson's films. They cover the good and the bad, as well as a discussion on the excessive nature of turning The Hobbit into 3 films.

(Oh, and in case you're wondering, yes, episode 126 was posted before 125. Technical issues, combined with the need to get the wrestling show out by WrestleMania, meant that 126 had to go up in a more timely manner)

Episode 123: Old Men Sitting In Caves Distributing Swords

Friday, January 29th, 2016

It’s dangerous to go alone….take this!!!

…and with those words, the children of the 80’s blew into their golden cartridges, prayed that the included battery saved their game data, and went on their quest to save the Princess Zelda.

Now, Mike, Andy, and Joe discuss the enduring legacy that is the quest of Link in the Legend of Zelda games.  They discuss the triumphs, like the original game, Ocarina of Time, and Twilight Princess, to the failures of Majoro’s Mask, Link’s Adventure, and the CD-i games that were so awful, they were scrubbed from the Zelda continuity.

Then, hang out as the boys discuss the latest “Suicide Squad” trailer.

Then, buckle in for the depressing third of the show, where the gang discusses the recent deaths of Glen Frey, Alan Rickman, and David Bowie…

Episode 121: Pixar - Don’t Blame Us For Planes!

Wednesday, November 25th, 2015

There was a time when 3D animated films were the stuff of rumors and legends. And then came Pixar! With Pixar's 16th film, The Good Dinosaur, just a few days away from release, the Geek Salad crew is looking back and ranking the 15 previous films in Geek Salad episode 121: Pixar - Don't Blame Us For Planes!

Andy, Mike G, Joe, and Katherine go through the list of Pixar films, from Toy Story to Inside Out and see where they are ranked according to ratings sent in by Geek Salad listeners... and anyone else who they could beg a list from. So which one came in first and which one came in dead last. The latter is fairly easy to figure out (hint: it rhymes with "Mars 2").
