Episode 139 (Side A): Joshua Tree 2: The Destruction of Bruno

Sunday, February 5th, 2017

1987….The year that yielded some of the best music of the entire decade.  So why does the Top of the Charts look and sound like it was frozen in a time capsule from 1961?  Andy, Mike, Katherine, and Joe try to discover the answer in Geek Salad’s Episode 139:  Joshua Tree 2:  The Destruction of Bruno, where they attempt to break through the notable singles of the year.

While there were some timely stalwarts of 80’s music; Madonna, Bon Jovi, U2, etc…the pop charts were littered with the likes of Lisa Lisa, Billy Vera (who wrote the breakup song to end all breakup songs for “Family Ties”), and Gregory (who?) Abbott…

…also, Mike will be hearing Kenny G’s “Songbird” for the first time, so be nice to him…!!!

Episode 137: Kristmas Karol by Edmund Welles (the Well-Known Dutch Author)

Wednesday, December 21st, 2016

It's Holiday time once again, which also means that it is once again time for Geek Salad to present their annual Holiday episode. This time, they cover Ebenezer Scrooge, Bob Cratchit, and the revenge of Tiny Tim in Geek Salad episode 137: Kristmas Karol by Edmund Welles (the Well-Known Dutch Author).

Ever since it was first published in 1843, hardly any story in history has had as many adaptations as Charles Dickens' A Christmas Carol. While there have been a number of well-done faithful adaptations, and quite a few fun and different takes on it as well, there have also been more than a few versions that bring out the Scrooge in us. So join Andy, Mike, Joe, and Autumn as they experience both the highs and the lows.

They are also accompanied by three spirits: Jack Daniels, Jim Beam, and Mulled Wine.

Episode 131: I Can’t Hear You!!!!

Thursday, August 11th, 2016

Hello Cleveland!  Are you ready to rock?  I can’t hear you!  The team of Geek Salad are way louder than you!  And Andy, Mike, Katherine, and Joe have sobered up to tell you their favorite (and comically horrifying) concert and live music stories in Episode 131: I Can’t Hear You!

Have you ever been a beer mule for a Brian Adams concert?  Andy has!  Have you ever seen Eric Clapton 8 times?  Joe has!  Have you ever seen Travis Tritt during the World’s Greatest Mullet phase?  Mike did!  And have you ever had to drive the stoner bus to a Phish show?  Katherine has stores…

There are also stories about opening bands that forgot their place in the pecking order, worst encores, and a whole lot more!   So grab your lighter (or your lighter app if you’re..ya know…young…) and hold out hope that they’ll close the show with “Freebird!”

Episode 125: Tom Bombadil Ain’t In This One, Either

Saturday, April 2nd, 2016

Settle down in your favorite little Hobbit hole and break out some lembas bread, as it is time for Geek Salad to venture into Middle Earth with episode 125: Tom Bombadil Ain't In This One, Either.Yes, not even the godfather of all nerd culture, Tolkien, is safe from the Geek Salad crew, this time consisting of Ranger Andy, his Elvish maiden Autumn, Rider of Rohan Joe, and Man of Gondor Mike.

The crew take on the books (ever so briefly as they can be a bit... what's the word... boring), the animated specials (which can be a bit... '70s), and finally all six of Peter Jackson's films. They cover the good and the bad, as well as a discussion on the excessive nature of turning The Hobbit into 3 films.

(Oh, and in case you're wondering, yes, episode 126 was posted before 125. Technical issues, combined with the need to get the wrestling show out by WrestleMania, meant that 126 had to go up in a more timely manner)

Episode 124: Back in the (Miller) High Life Again (ft. the Michelob Horns)

Thursday, February 25th, 2016

Think about it…there must be Higher Love…and you can get that with Geek Salad Episode 124:  Back in the (Miller) High Life Again (feat. The Michelob Horns).  In this extra, extra long installment, Andy, Mike, Katherine, and the returning Jim, discuss the long list of Billboard Number One hits of the year 1986.  They also find time to tear apart the video for Don Johnson’s “Heartbeat,” and discuss their favorite albums released in ’86!  And what would a discussion that involves Huey Lewis be if it didn’t include Jim making jokes about his schlong!

Episode 123: Old Men Sitting In Caves Distributing Swords

Friday, January 29th, 2016

It’s dangerous to go alone….take this!!!

…and with those words, the children of the 80’s blew into their golden cartridges, prayed that the included battery saved their game data, and went on their quest to save the Princess Zelda.

Now, Mike, Andy, and Joe discuss the enduring legacy that is the quest of Link in the Legend of Zelda games.  They discuss the triumphs, like the original game, Ocarina of Time, and Twilight Princess, to the failures of Majoro’s Mask, Link’s Adventure, and the CD-i games that were so awful, they were scrubbed from the Zelda continuity.

Then, hang out as the boys discuss the latest “Suicide Squad” trailer.

Then, buckle in for the depressing third of the show, where the gang discusses the recent deaths of Glen Frey, Alan Rickman, and David Bowie…

Episode 112: Can We Go One Episode Without Mentioning Mrs. Slocombe’s P****?!?

Sunday, May 31st, 2015

The United Kingdom has provided the world with many things, many of which we actually enjoy! Among them are British sitcoms (Britcoms). From the '60s to more recent times, sitcoms from the British Isles have made us laugh with their unique humor, and the crew of Geek Salad breaks down some of their favorites in Episode 112: Can We Go One Episode Without Mentioning Mrs. Slocombe's Pussy?!? (which seems a lot dirtier when taken out of context)

Join Andy, Mike G, Joe, and Katherine as they go over such classics as Are You Being Served?, Blackadder, and Red Dwarf, as well as more recent shows such as Extras and The Thick of It. Then stick around for the trailer for Jem and the Holograms in... no, not Trailer Park. It finds itself in Stupid, Stupid! They then wrap up the show with a spoiler-laden review of Avengers: Age of Ultron.
